Collaborations: Visualizing Musical Interpretation

A new exhibit is on display in the Music Library's Little Gallery Underground:

In the Spring of 2018, a Woven Structures Advanced Fiber Arts course collaborated with a Public Music Theory undergraduate seminar to produce a series of artworks meant to represent interpretations of music. During the semester, music students and art students of Rob Mertens and John Peterson met in small groups to discuss selected music pieces or popular songs. The art students used the information generated from the discussions to create a woven structure, and the music students created blogs and program notes to display their interpretations. The result is very much a combination of an "artifact" from the process as well as the interpretation of complex musical literacy.

The exhibit will hold an opening reception on Friday, September 7, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.in The little Gallery underground, room B59 of the music building. Find more information on Facebook!
