Two documentary screenings and Q&As with filmmakers on March 13

JMU Libraries and Educational Technologies (LET) is co-sponsoring two documentary screenings on Tuesday, March 13 as part of an ongoing research project led by JMU's Dr. Gianluca De Fazio and supported by LET faculty and staff.

"That World is Gone: Race and Displacement in a Southern Town" examines the history of Charlottesville’s largest African American neighborhood, Vinegar Hill, and its destruction in 1965 as part of the “urban renewal” movement. The screening on Tuesday, March 13, from 3-4:30 p.m. in Carrier Library room 301, will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.

“An Outrage: Documentary Film about Lynching in the American South,” filmed on location at lynching sites in six states and bolstered by the memories and perspectives of descendants, activists, and scholars, educates even as it serves as a hub for action to remember a long-hidden past. It won awards from the Indie Grits, Middlebury New Filmmakers, and Virginia film festivals in 2017. The screening on Tuesday, March 13, from 6:30-8 p.m. in Madison Hall room 1001, will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.
