Messages of Support for Charlottesville

In the wake of the events in Charlottesville on the weekend of August 12 and the issues underlying these events, President Alger officially expressed JMU's support for friends and colleagues in Charlottesville and the University of Virginia.

If you would like to offer your own expression of support to our friends in Charlottesville, you are invited to do so in the lobbies of Rose and Carrier Libraries. In Carrier, look for the bulletin board by the café; in Rose look for a board near the stairs. JMU Libraries and Educational Technologies will send your messages of support to the University of Virginia Library at the end of this week.

Near each board, you will also find Counseling Center handouts with reminders of self-care you can engage in.

If you have found that you have been impacted by the events or the larger issues at play, and want support beyond self-care, please know that there are many people on campus here to support you. Some of the resources that may be of assistance include:

In the coming weeks, two events may be of interest:

Monumental Change: Campus Climate and Teaching Post-Charlottesville (Roundtable). An informal faculty conversation on campus climate and concerns in the wake of August events in Charlottesville. Tue 9/5, 5-6:30 PM in Madison Union 405. No registration necessary.

DEEP Impact Dialogue: The topic of the dialogue is #TrendingNow and Diversity Educators will be facilitating a dialogue among JMU students around topics that have been trending around the country this summer. Wed 9/6, 7pm in Madison Union Ballroom.
