Black Women in Sequence: Re-inking Comics, Graphic Novels, and Anime

All students, staff, faculty, and community members are invited to the first Special Collections Speaker Series of the academic year:

Dr. Deborah Whaley, Professor of American Studies from the University of Iowa, will give a presentation on her recent publication Black Women in Sequence: Re-Inking Comics, Graphic Novels, and Anime. Whaley’s work offers the first full-length treatment of the representation of black women in comics and comics-inspired genres. Her talk will complement Special Collections’ ongoing collecting initiative to diversify the comic book collection.

Join us Thursday, September 20, in Carrier Library 301 from 5 to 6pm for this lecture, which is co-sponsored by the Visiting Scholars Program, the Special Collections Speaker Series, the Africana Literatures and Cultures Workshop, the Africana Studies Program, and the IDEA Grant Committee.
